In line with our longstanding policy on the prescription of medication requested by other specialists, we will require a letter from that doctor outlining the following things:
– The name, dose and length of treatment of any medication
– The reason for the medication
– Any particular monitoring requirements for that medication.
In the case of private specialists or GPs advising medications, please note that the medication must be in the local Herts Valleys CCG NHS prescribing list in order for us to prescribe it.
If it is urgent and you have a prescription from a specialist, then you will need to use the private prescription to obtain the medication. Otherwise, you will need to wait up to 72 hours for us to issue an NHS prescription.
A copy of a private prescription is not sufficient for us to change to an NHS prescription, we require a letter as well.
