A Message from Dr Small

This Summer will mark the 28th year of my life at Schopwick. In fact, I have only ever worked in General Practice at Schopwick. I am sure many of you know, how much the practice means to me and how much I am looking forward to seeing Schopwick continue to thrive.

Schopwick is an amazing place, and I am so grateful for the opportunities it has given me and the support I have had in my career as a GP. However, after much consideration, I have decided it is time for me to retire from the Partnership at the end of September and hand it on to the next generation. I will be continuing some of my management responsibilities with the NHS which as some of you know, I have been doing for many years.

I have spoken to some of my patients over the last few weeks to tell them of my plans, so apologies if this comes as a surprise to some of you.

It has been an enormous privilege to serve our patients and the community we work in. Family medicine and our ethos of care at Schopwick is very special to all of us who work here and despite all the pressures in General Practice currently, I know that Schopwick will adapt, innovate and thrive.

I am proud that all of our GP partners have either been trained here or been closely associated with the local GP training schemes. This is very unusual in the modern NHS and something to treasure.

Our Patient Participation Group have been incredibly supportive to the practice in recent years and I would like to pay tribute to them all. Our Health & Wellbeing event in June was a real highlight and an incredible success.

As well as our fantastic GPs and Nursing team, we have also incorporated in recent years many new roles such as Pharmacists, Physicians Associates, Physiotherapists, Nurse Practitioners and Care Navigators. The team spirit here is so important and I want to thank all our current and former receptionists, Patient Coordinators and Office team for their support and friendship they have given me over the years.

All of those who work at Schopwick are a brilliant team & I can’t tell you how much I will miss working with them as well as the patients and families I have cared for over the years.
